I gave The Darkest part a try because I had read and enjoyed another novel that this author wrote, and because I wanted to read something a little different from what I had been reading all week. This was my first endeavor into the new adult category and I can say that this one at least was not for me. I don't know if all NA is like this, but I'm not used to all of the crude and vulgar language on every single page, pretty much every time one of the characters said or even thought about anything. I liked things about Holden's personality but everything the main character, Sam did in the book turned him on, and I'm not at all exaggerating. She bit her lip and he was aroused. The guy was led around by his hormones. It would have been nice if he could have for once seen her as more that an object. It was just ridiculous. And the sex, it was just off putting. There was one scene in particular that I didn't find romantic at all. Actually I didn't find any of those scenes romantic in this book. I suppose it was what some would call hot and steamy, but it was not what I like to read. Like the language and thoughts of the main characters, it was too crude for me. It almost felt like it was all about finally getting to do the act and get relief after lusting after that person for years and years, and do it in the most unromantic way possible because this is all about hormones, instead of two people coming together who loved each other for years. I was drawn into the story despite these things and kept reading because I wanted to see how it all would end, and what everyone was hiding. Unfortunately, that could not outweigh the things I disliked about the book.
